STEP 2 In Catcher in the Rye, Holden says to S everyy, The guys that are on the basketb entirely team pound sterling together, the Catholics gravel together, the goddam intellectuals generate together, the guys that play bridge bite together. (Pg 131) In this quote, Holden is trying to explain to Sally what boys are like in boys school, telling her that all the boys are phonies and all they do is stick together in their dirty little cliques. In the quote, Holden repeat the word stick together more than once, trying to eat up out what he is trying to say, showing the importance that all boys stick together like they are gay or something. This passage is important because it shows that Holden is lonesome, he cant fit in with the others and that he doesnt have a specifi c group that he belongs to. In the book, Holden says to Sally, Heres my idea. How would you like to get the hell out of here? Heres my idea. I know.... (Pg 132) In this quote, Holden is explaining to Sally what they will do if they run of to England.
